Athletics Overview & Calendar

Montera Sports are a part of the Oakland Athletic League (OAL) for Middle School Sports. We play particular sports in particular seasons to align with OAL and always plan to field teams in every sport. Middle school sports correlate with high school sports seasons. Most sports teams at Montera are competitive, meaning students try out for the team (occurs after school at Montera), practice twice a week, and have competitive games against other middle schools on Saturdays. In some cases, there is a club sport (such as golf) with no competitive game on Saturdays. Expect a season ending banquet to celebrate the team’s season.

If you are interested to join Montera Sports please fill out the Montera Interest and Volunteer Form. Please visit the Registration and Requirements page for more information and to register your student-athlete. Check the weekly e-bulletin, website and Parent Square often for tryout information. Teams are coached by teachers and volunteer parents - we are always looking for coaches! Email Martin Price, Athletic Director @ martin.price@ousd.org and sports@monterapto.com if interested.

Spring Sports Update

Congratulations to Montera Baseball for winning the East Bay Middle School League (EBMSL) Championship! In an intense showdown, Montera edged out previously undefeated Piedmont 6-5 at Rickey Henderson Field.

Softball
Montera’s softball team made history by capturing their first-ever OAL Championship, defeating Claremont 15-4 in a stunning victory. The win was especially sweet after an earlier season loss to Claremont.

Montera Athletics will offer the following teams for the 2024-25 school year.

2024-25 Oakland Athletic League Middle School Sports Calendar Guideline

Gender Equity & Nonbinary Students

All students should have the opportunity to participate in athletic activities in a manner that is consistent with their gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on a student’s records. Once a nonbinary or intersex student has notified the student’s school of their gender identity, the student shall be treated as either gender for purposes of eligibility for athletics and activities that are gender‐segregated or gender‐specific, provided that if the student has tried out or participated in athletics or an activity that is gender‐specific or gender‐segregated, the student may not participate during that same season on a team of the other gender.

Coaches Needed

We're always looking for new coaches! Interested? Email Martin Price at martin.price@ousd.org & sports@monterapto.com.

New Policy: Sports Practice Parking

For safety reasons, the Montera blacktop is for sports team practices only. Parents and guardians must park in the lower lot near the blue tables for drop-off and pick-up. No cars (except coaches transporting gear) are allowed past the gate onto the blacktop.
